To ensure candidates have the necessary skills and mature decision-making required for the Big Mountain Instructor Course, please answer the following. These questions are designed to move beyond simple yes/no answers and encourage candidates to demonstrate their experience and risk management mindset.

Please confirm your current CASI certification levels, choose all that applies.

Please confirm your current Canada Snowboard coaching levels, if you have any, choose all that applies.

Describe your current big mountain riding and teaching experience, including specific locations and terrain types.

Is your freeride equipment specifically maintained and suited for Big Mountain terrain (for example, edge tuning, board shape, and stiffness)? Please describe your setup.

Describe your comfort level in double-black terrain. How do you adapt your riding when encountering variable snow conditions such as wind-crust, ice, or deep powder?

Please provide a reference who can vouch for your riding.

Describe a time you chose not to enter a specific piece of terrain. How did you assess the situation before making that decision?

What are your top class management considerations when leading a group into steep technical terrain?

The course involves three consecutive days of demanding riding and teaching. What is your process for maintaining performance and safety awareness over the three days?

What are your specific objectives for attending this course? How do you plan to use this certification to enhance your teaching and freeriding in the future?

Please provide the name of one supporting CASI staff member or active Level 3 evaluator for your application.

This course is an application-based program. Applications will be reviewed based on the questions above to determine whether candidates meet the prerequisites and are a strong fit for the program.

Once the review process is complete, all selected applicants will be contacted and receive a registration link, along with information on how to prepare for the course.
